The director of The Perfect Storm and Troy returns with a remake of the 70s disaster flick The Posiedon Adventure. Meh.
MAY 19
THE DAVINCI CODE
Directed by Ron Howard (Apollo 13)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0382625/
Has a shot at being the top grossing film of the summer, if not the year. This book is insanely popular. Tom Hanks is good too.
MAY 26
X-MEN 3: THE LAST STAND
Directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0376994/
Yeayea the trailer's look sick but I mean, its frickin' Brett Ratner, the loser who brought you "Rush Hour 2." And word is the script kills off a bunch of key characters...for no reason.
JUNE 2
HARSH TIMES
Directed by David Ayer (writer of Training Day)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0433387/
The director wrote Training Day and Dark Blue, both universally respected cop movies. Christian Bale is in this, so it's worth scopin'.
JUNE 6 (6.6.6.)
THE OMEN
Directed by John Moore (Behind Enemy Lines)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0466909/
A remake of the creepy 70s movie. It's released on 6.6.6. And so?
JUNE 9
CARS

JUNE 16
THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT
Directed by Justin Lin (Better Luck Tomorrow)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0463985/
Just watch the trailer of this and tell me you're not going to drop 12.50 at the sinny with all your friends.
JUNE 30
SUPERMAN RETURNS
Directed by Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, X-Men)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0348150/
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo IT'S SUPERMAN YOU CANNOT TOUCH THIS.
The biggest movie of the summer by far.
JULY 7
A SCANNER DARKLY
Directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed & Confused)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0405296/
Based on a book by the seriously demented Philip K. Dick. Has Keanu in it. A lot of drugs.
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2: DEAD MAN'S CHEST
Directed by Gore Verbinski (The Ring)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0383574/
Meh, if you liked the first, you'll like this one. And Mr. Depp is back as Jack Sparrow. And so is that fox Keira Knightley.
JULY 14th
PATHFINDER
Directed by Marcus Nispel (The Biggie Video "Victory")
http://imdb.com/title/tt0446013/
Karl Urban (Eomer from LOTR) in a Viking battle adventure. Mmmm...
JULY 21st
LADY IN THE WATER
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (Signs)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0452637/
Another bloody film by the lord of creepiness and mediocrity M. Night. It has Paul Giamatti in it.
JULY 28th
MIAMI VICE
Directed by Michael Mann (Heat)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0430357/
Oh damn, now this is a film to watch. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx driving around Miami with lots of stuff exploding and Michael Mann using blue-filters and slow-motion to make them look cool.
AUGUST 4th
APOCALYPTO
Directed by Mel Gibson (Braveheart)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0472043/
Forget Passion of the Christ. Braveheart killed it, and so will this. Mayans, authentically shot on location, hyper-violent. Yea dogs.
FEARLESS
Directed by Ronny Yu (Freddie Vs. Jason)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0446059/
Jet Li. Returns. Fighting.
THE U.S. VS. JOHN LENNON
Directed by David Leaf & John Scheinfeld
http://imdb.com/title/tt0478049/
A documentary about the U.S. trying to deport John Lennon. Lots of archival footage of some strange and important times.
AUGUST 11th
WORLD TRADE CENTER
Directed by Oliver Stone (JFK)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0469641/
Exactly as the title suggests, the 2nd movie after United 93 to be based on 9/11. This one has Nicolas Cage in it and is about firefighters trapped in the rubble of the twin towers. Going to be interesting at least with Mr. Stone directing.
SNAKES ON A PLANE
Directed by David R. Ellis (Sliver)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0417148/
Samuel L. Jackson and a lot of snakes aboard a plane. I don't know, I like Sam the man.
CLERKS 2

AUGUST 25th
IDLEWILD
Directed by Bryan Barber (Hey Ya! Video)
http://imdb.com/title/tt0417225/
Outkast's first movie, and hopefully not their last about life in the turn of the century American South. Gonna have a sick soundtrack behind it of course.
And that's it. All these are worth some of your time (except Lady in the Water...) but I mean, yo SUPERMAN RETURNS. REPRESENT !

Baseball Season Opens
New York Yankees (Go Yanks!) Pitcher Randy Johnson on Opening Day of the Major League Baseball Season.War talk and sabre-rattling have been marring an otherwise good time in the news year. Iran's been conducting some interesting tests with its new advanced torpedoes and long-range missiles.
Meanwhile, to continue hammering the point I've been making since the beginning of this blog, that despite all the pagentry and hoopla happening around the world what with the Olympics and the World Cup and movies being released, Iraq remains in almost complete chaos. There's a full-blown war going on and no-one seems to notice. Is this because of a lack of concern amongst the average man ? Is everyone so busy working and studying for exams they fail to pause for a moment and remember that people are fighting over oil and democracy half a world away and the West (this includes the U.S. and Canada) has all their dirty fingers in it?
Hopefully, Silvio Berlusconi the fat rat will finally get booted out of office some time this week. That will be the first political casualty in a long list of leaders that need to pay their dues for the tragedy of Iraq and Afghanistan, which in terms of pure numbers and cost, far outweigh the much-better publicized 9/11. Speaking of 9/11, United 93 is coming soon to theaters everywhere.
