Summer Movie Preview

Greetings fellows. A special edition of Fookpop Blog today with a spotlight on the hot films coming out this summer. Refer to this post throughout the summer to make sure you catch at least some of these films (preferably in theaters, enough illegal downloading and DVDs tabernak).

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III

THE PROMISE

POSIEDON

The director of The Perfect Storm and Troy returns with a remake of the 70s disaster flick The Posiedon Adventure. Meh.

MAY 19

THE DAVINCI CODE
Directed by Ron Howard (Apollo 13)

Has a shot at being the top grossing film of the summer, if not the year. This book is insanely popular. Tom Hanks is good too.

MAY 26

X-MEN 3: THE LAST STAND

Yeayea the trailer's look sick but I mean, its frickin' Brett Ratner, the loser who brought you "Rush Hour 2." And word is the script kills off a bunch of key characters...for no reason.

HARSH TIMES

The director wrote Training Day and Dark Blue, both universally respected cop movies. Christian Bale is in this, so it's worth scopin'.

THE OMEN

A remake of the creepy 70s movie. It's released on 6.6.6. And so?

CARS

Pixar returns with its first since the incredible Incredibles. What more needs to be said, ITS PIXAR THE GREATEST STUDIO IN THE WORLD.

THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS: TOKYO DRIFT

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 2: DEAD MAN'S CHEST

Meh, if you liked the first, you'll like this one. And Mr. Depp is back as Jack Sparrow. And so is that fox Keira Knightley.

LADY IN THE WATER

Another bloody film by the lord of creepiness and mediocrity M. Night. It has Paul Giamatti in it.

JULY 28th

MIAMI VICE

Oh damn, now this is a film to watch. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx driving around Miami with lots of stuff exploding and Michael Mann using blue-filters and slow-motion to make them look cool.

AUGUST 4th

APOCALYPTO

Forget Passion of the Christ. Braveheart killed it, and so will this. Mayans, authentically shot on location, hyper-violent. Yea dogs.

FEARLESS

Jet Li. Returns. Fighting.

THE U.S. VS. JOHN LENNON

A documentary about the U.S. trying to deport John Lennon. Lots of archival footage of some strange and important times.

AUGUST 11th

WORLD TRADE CENTER
Directed by Oliver Stone (JFK)

Exactly as the title suggests, the 2nd movie after United 93 to be based on 9/11. This one has Nicolas Cage in it and is about firefighters trapped in the rubble of the twin towers. Going to be interesting at least with Mr. Stone directing.

SNAKES ON A PLANE

Samuel L. Jackson and a lot of snakes aboard a plane. I don't know, I like Sam the man.

CLERKS 2

The boys from Clerks return, this time entering their 30s and continuing to swear and talk about nonsense. A 90s flashback if there ever was one.

AUGUST 25th

IDLEWILD

Outkast's first movie, and hopefully not their last about life in the turn of the century American South. Gonna have a sick soundtrack behind it of course.
