Fookpop Returns

Muslim women pray inside the Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem, Palestine.

Under the bright light of a Ramdan moon, we return to you after an extended summer hiatus. The world has experienced yet another Middle East war in a long list of Middle East wars, a couple more terrorist attacks (and terrorist scares) and as is usual for these times, a lot of finger-pointing at Muslims in general and Iran in particular. Now really, Ms. Rice, could Iran possibly be responsible for Hizbullah's rocket assaults into Northern Israel, the Mahdi Army's death squads in Iraq and still be a nuclear threat to the U.S. ?

Bob Woodward's soon to be released book "State of Denial" seems ready to shed some light on the inner workings of the W Administration's foreign policy development, if only to prove suspicions that most cynical leftists and Muslims had already.

What we find in the current situation is a real lack of momentum for the W Administration's push towards another war in Iran and, for the first time since the 2000 Election, a U.S. electorate going into elections with a relatively clear mind about the state of the nation. Without a 9/11 or Bin Laden tape hanging over their heads, November will tell which lesser of two evils the people of the U.S. want ruling their affairs.

And throughout the turmoil of this summer, with the Lebanon War, the threat of liquids and gels on U.K. airlines, and more recently, contaminated spinach and school shootings, we have the grand tragedy of Iraq raging every day, receiving less and less coverage as the days drag on. Thousands killed every month, dozens of tortured bodies found in the streets of Baghdad on a daily basis, billions of tax dollars spent, and a civil war in its infancy, and yet the modern world with all of its enlightened talk of human rights and free trade and information technology cannot solve its one major crisis.

Oh, and Darfur is still getting f*cked.
